CHICAGO (AP) -The Chicago Cubs placed right-hander Rocky Cherry on the 15-day disabled list with a strained muscle on Sunday, one day after recalling him from Triple-A Iowa.
Cherry pitched two innings on Saturday, allowing an unearned run, and hurt his right lat muscle. He is 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA in nine appearances during two stints with the Cubs.
The Cubs recalled right-hander Billy Petrick, who had been optioned to Triple-A Iowa the previous day. Petrick, called up from Double-A Tennessee on Tuesday, allowed two runs in 3 2-3 innings over two appearances for Chicago entering Sunday’s game.
