WASHINGTON (AP) -Nationals outfielder Lastings Milledge was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday night, a few hours after he injured his right groin in the third inning against the Baltimore Orioles.
Milledge was chasing a liner hit in the gap by Alex Cintron when he went to one knee, hoping to stop the ball from hitting the wall. Milledge scraped his leg and was in obvious pain before finally reaching for the ball and throwing it back to the infield.
After being examined by athletic trainer Michael McGowan, Milledge was removed from the game and replaced by Willie Harris. Milledge, who drove in a first-inning run and got his 13th steal, is batting .245 and leads the Nationals with 32 RBIs.
Later in the game, the Nationals put Milledge on the disabled list and recalled outfielder Roger Bernadina from Double-A Harrisburg. Bernadina is expected to join the team Sunday.
The 24-year-old Bernadina was batting .325 with five homers and 38 RBIs in 72 games before Saturday. This will be his first stint in the majors.
