MIAMI (AP) Miami’s Justin Bour and Giancarlo Stanton each drove in three runs to power the Marlins to a come-from-behind 9-6 win against the stumbling Chicago Cubs on Saturday.
The Cubs have lost five of their past six games yet their overall lead in the National League remained at three games as nearest rival San Francisco suffered a rare home loss against Philadelphia.
In the American League, leader Texas had a comfortable win against Boston while Cleveland’s hot streak continued with another win against its favorite opponent Detroit.
Miami’s Bour hit his 14th home run of the season for the Marlins, who reached the 40 win milestone in 75 games; 20 games faster than they did a year ago.
Miami starter Paul Clemens trailed 4-1 early but settled down and got through five innings to record his first win since 2013.
Philadelphia’s Cameron Rupp hit a two-run homer in a three-run seventh inning which proved enough for the Phillies to win 3-2 at San Francisco.
Giants starter Madison Bumgarner gave up just two hits over the first six innings but then allowed three hits to the first four batters he faced in the seventh, including Rupp’s shot over center which ended the San Francisco ace’s night. It was the first time in 12 starts that he had given up more than two earned runs.
Texas’ Elvis Andrus had a bases-loaded triple that helped the Rangers cruise to a 10-3 win against Boston.
Andrus cleared the bases with his triple to the wall in left-center field. He then scored on a wild pitch, capping a five-run inning when all the runs were unearned after two errors and a passed ball.
Ian Desmond’s homer, his sixth in June, had tied the game leading off the fourth.
Cleveland’s Carlos Carrasco pitched a shutout to steer the Indians to a 6-0 win against Detroit, stretching their winning streak to eight games while also making it eight straight victories against the Tigers this season.
Carrasco struck out seven and walked only one. He threw a season-high 117 pitches in his third career shutout.
Francisco Lindor hit two homers in his first career multihomer game.
Chicago tied a team record by hitting seven home runs but that was not enough to prevent the White Sox losing 10-8 to Toronto.
All seven homers were solo shots. Brett Lawrie became the first White Sox player since Ron Santo in 1974 to hit inside-the-park and over-the-wall homers in the same game, and Chicago hit three straight home runs in the second inning.
However Edwin Encarnacion drove in four runs and Devon Travis homered for the Blue Jays
Milwaukee’s Chris Carter hit a three-run homer to lift the Brewers to a 6-5 win against Washington.
Carter connected for his 19th homer of the season with two outs in the first.
Milwaukee starter Matt Garza, who missed the first two months of the season with a back injury, took his first win of 2016, giving up seven hits in six innings.
Pittsburgh’s Jeff Locke did not allow a base-runner until the sixth inning, steering the Pirates to a 6-1 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Locke retired his first 15 batters before allowing consecutive doubles to start the sixth inning. Locke conceded one run and one walk in seven innings.
Andrew McCutchen homered twice; a solo shot in the fourth inning for the game’s first hit and then a three-run shot to start a five-run sixth that increased the Pirates’ lead to 6-0. It was a welcome breakout for McCutchen after his batting average had slumped to .239.
Houston’s winning streak reached seven with a 13-5 victory at Kansas City.
Jose Altuve went 4 for 5, including a home run and two doubles, driving in three runs and scoring three. He is hitting .417 with a .484 on-base percentage while reaching base in 27 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the major leagues.
The Astros scored seven runs in the second inning.
Seattle’s Dae-Ho Lee drove in two runs and Leonys Martin had three hits as the Mariners edged St. Louis 5-4.
Baltimore won both games of a double-header against Tampa Bay – 5-0 in the day games and 8-6 in the nightcap – to boost the Orioles lead atop the AL East while sending the Rays spiraling to a 10th successive loss.
Colorado’s Tony Wolters hit his first major league home run and drove in four runs to power the Rockies past Arizona 11-6.
New York’s Kelly Johnson lined a leadoff home run in the 11th inning to settle a previously scoreless contest and give the Mets a 1-0 victory over Atlanta.
Oakland’s Dillon Overton pitched into the sixth inning to get the win in his major league debut, helping the Athletics defeat the Los Angeles Angels 7-3.
San Diego’s Drew Pomeranz drove in a pair of runs and pitched seven scoreless innings, leading the Padres past Cincinnati 3-0.
New York’s Starlin Castro drove home the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning with a sharp one-hopper that got past the shortstop for an error, giving the Yankees a 2-1 win against hapless Minnesota.
