HOUSTON (AP) -The Texas Rangers purchased the contract of first baseman Chris Davis from Triple-A Oklahoma and designated first baseman Chris Shelton for assignment on Thursday.
Davis has batted .333 with 23 home runs and 77 RBIs in a combined 77 games for Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Oklahoma this season. He leads all minor league players with 68 runs scored this season.
Shelton was .216 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 41 games for the Rangers since April 29. The Rangers have 10 days to release, trade or send him outright to the minors.
Manager Ron Washington said Davis will remain with the team until Hank Blalock returns from the disabled list.
