NEW YORK (AP) -Oakland, Texas and Philadelphia each had four players selected for next month’s Futures game during the All-Star festivities at Yankee Stadium.
Major League Baseball announced the 25-man rosters for the USA Olympic trial and World teams on Thursday. Players from all full-season minor leagues were eligible for the squads.
The Athletics put pitchers Brett Anderson and Trevor Cahill and infielder Cliff Pennington on the U.S. team, and right-hander Henry Rodriguez on the World squad.
Catcher Louis Marson (U.S.), infielder Jason Donald (U.S.), outfielder Greg Golson (U.S.) and right-hander Carlos Carrasco (World) were picked for the game from the Phillies’ system.
The Rangers had three infielders and catcher Taylor Teagarden (U.S.) on the rosters for the July 13 game. Elvis Andrus and Max Ramirez are on the World team, and Chris Davis is on the U.S. squad.
Davey Johnson, who managed the Mets to the 1986 World Series title, will guide the USA team in the exhibition. In August, he will lead the U.S. in the Beijing Games.
Tino Martinez, a former star for the Yankees, will handle the World squad in the nine-inning game. In the past, the event usually lasted seven innings.
The major league All-Star game will be held July 15, highlighting the final season at Yankee Stadium.
