NEW YORK (AP) -The Cincinnati Reds placed infielder Jolbert Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list Saturday and recalled right-hander Daryl Thompson from Triple-A Louisville.
Cabrera suffered a compound dislocation of his left index finger sliding into second base in Cincinnati’s 4-2 win over the New York Yankees on Friday night. He became the fourth Reds shortstop on the DL.
Thompson was set to make his major league debut Saturday, getting the start against the Yankees. He went 3-0 with a 3.25 ERA in four starts after he was promoted to Louisville.
The Reds acquired Thompson in an eight-player deal with Washington in 2006 that sent Austin Kearns and Felipe Lopez to the Nationals.
Paul Janish was in Saturday’s lineup at shortstop for Cincinnati, which has started five different players at the position this year. Jeff Keppinger (broken left kneecap), Jerry Hairston Jr. (broken left thumb) and Alex Gonzalez (compression fracture in left knee) are on the DL, and Juan Castro was designated for assignment in April.
