WASHINGTON (AP) -Nationals first baseman Nick Johnson will visit the Mayo Clinic on Monday to determine why his injured wrist is taking so long to heal.
The injury-prone Johnson missed the entire 2007 season because of a broken leg. He’s been on the disabled list since May 15 because of a torn tendon in his right wrist.
“He still has soreness. We’re going to get another opinion to make sure there’s nothing else we can do at this point,” Washington general manager Jim Bowden said before Saturday night’s game against Texas. “It’s discouraging that he’s not any better after all this time.”
Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who’s been on the DL since May 26 with a small tear in his left shoulder, is making progress.
“Our medical people are optimistic…that he’ll be able to be back in the second half (of the season),” Bowden said.
