NEW YORK (AP) -Manhattan prosecutors are investigating whether a firm that tested concrete at the future Yankee Stadium and the World Trade Center site may have falsified some test results or billed for tests never done.
A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that prosecutors executed search warrants Friday at three Testwell Laboratories offices, including one at the Yankee Stadium site.
The official says prosecutors are investigating whether Testwell falsified tests, overbilled for some tests and billed for some tests it never conducted. The person says the probe concerns the Yankee Stadium project, the Freedom Tower skyscraper at ground zero, and possibly a dozen other projects.
Testwell officials aren’t immediately returning messages. A New York Yankees spokesman says a construction monitor noticed problems with Testwell a few months ago. Both the Yankees and the trade center site’s owner say the concrete handled by Testwell is structurally sound.
