PITTSBURGH (AP) -The Pirates recalled outfielder Nyjer Morgan from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday and optioned right-hander Marino Salas to the same club for the second time this season.
Morgan was in Pittsburgh’s lineup in right field against the Blue Jays on Friday night, with the team unsure whether outfielder Xavier Nady (left shoulder) need to be put on the disabled list. Nady has not played since bruising his left shoulder while running into an outfield fence Saturday night in Baltimore.
Morgan got a trial as the Pirates’ center fielder late last season but was beaten out for the job by Nate McLouth during spring training. Morgan was on the opening day roster and hit .161 in 22 games with Pittsburgh before being optioned to Indianapolis on May 8. He had a .239 average and 29 stolen bases in 37 games in Triple-A.
Salas was 1-0 with a 11.17 ERA while pitching 9 2-3 innings in nine games with Pittsburgh. He allowed three homers.
