PITTSBURGH (AP) -Toronto ace Roy Halladay got a scare, but apparently wasn’t injured, when he was struck in the right temple by Nyjer Morgan’s line drive in the seventh inning of the Blue Jays’ 1-0, 12-inning loss in Pittsburgh on Friday night.
Halladay pitched seven shutout innings in the loss, Toronto’s sixth in a row.
Pittsburgh loaded the bases in the seventh on singles by Adam LaRoche and Mientkiewicz and an intentional walk with two outs before the pitcher threw his glove up to deflect Morgan’s shot toward third baseman Scott Rolen for the inning-ending out.
Teammates rushed to check on Halladay, who looked shaken but uninjured. The Blue Jays didn’t announce until just before the game ended that the ball struck Halladay in the right temple; TV replays appeared to show the ball hitting Halladay’s glove without striking his head.
Halladay underwent precautionary X-rays after the game, but he was not bruised and showed no other signs of being hit by the ball.
