ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Cubs third baseman Mark DeRosa left Wednesday night’s game at Texas because of a problem with his left eye.
DeRosa made an error in the bottom of the first inning trying to backhand Sammy Sosa’s grounder. When it was his turn to bat in the second inning, DeRosa was pinch-hit for by Cesar Izturis and DeRosa was seen in the dugout pointing toward his left eye while talking to a trainer.
It wasn’t immediately clear what was wrong with DeRosa, but he wasn’t hit by the ball on his only defensive play.
The Cubs said DeRosa had “an issue” with his left eye and was being examined.
Izturis took over at shortstop and Ryan Theriot shifted to third base.
