CINCINNATI (AP) -Hall of Fame slugger Hank Aaron is calling on Major League Baseball to do more to increase participation by blacks in the game.
Aaron attended a panel discussion in Ohio on Friday with former athletes, civil rights scholars and activists as part of baseball’s Civil Rights Game weekend.
Aaron says progress has been made, but he’d like to see MLB do more to promote black involvement and opportunities in the game.
Baseball has taken steps to reverse the decline, and events leading up to Saturday night’s first regular-season Civil Rights Game in Cincinnati are meant to support that effort.
Aaron, Muhammad Ali and Bill Cosby will be honored Saturday for their contributions to civil rights.
