ST. LOUIS (AP) -Kansas City Royals designated hitter Mike Sweeney, hampered by a right knee injury, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.
The move was retroactive to Monday,
Sweeney is batting .245 with seven home runs and 31 RBIs in 57 games. Manager Buddy Bell said Monday that he did not anticipate Sweeney starting during the interleague series in St. Louis – Sweeney has played only five games at first base this year.

Butler batted .291 in 57 games at Omaha with 13 homers and 46 RBIs.
