CLEVELAND (AP) – The Indians have recalled third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall from Triple-A Columbus.
Chisenhall began the season as Cleveland’s starting third baseman, but he struggled and was optioned to the minor leagues on May 13 after batting just .213 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 26 games.
He will start and bat seventh Tuesday night when the Indians continue their series against Kansas City.
To make room for Chisenhall, the Indians optioned reliever Matt Langwell to the Clippers.
The Indians are hoping for big things this season from the 24-year-old Chisenhall, who missed two months last season with a broken arm. He batted .390 with six homers and 26 RBIs in 27 games at Columbus after being sent down. Since May 29, he’s batted .467 with 16 RBIs in 16 games.
