SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval is expected to begin a rehabilitation assignment in the minors on Friday.
The reigning World Series MVP has been on the disabled list since June 9 with a strained left foot. The All-Star took batting practice and fielded grounders before San Francisco's game against San Diego on Tuesday.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Sandoval will likely be the designated hitter for Class A San Jose when returns.
