ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Texas Rangers infielder Hank Blalock’s rehabilitation assignment has been delayed again.
Blalock had been scheduled to be at Triple-A Oklahoma for rehab games this week, but was instead with the Rangers on Tuesday, fielding grounders and taking batting practice.
Manager Ron Washington said Blalock was still experiencing problems with his hands following surgery May 30 for carpal tunnel syndrome.
“He said he needs to continue to swing the bat a little longer,” Washington said. “We want him to come back ready to play.”
Blalock had the surgery after a cortisone shot in the wrist did not help reduce the swelling.
The former All-Star third baseman, who will shift to first base when he comes back, was originally on the 15-day disabled list since April 29 with a torn left hamstring. He recovered from that injury and was preparing for a rehabilitation assignment then before experiencing wrist soreness.
Blalock is now scheduled to rehab with Oklahoma for three games starting Saturday. If all goes well, he will rejoin the Rangers for their series in Houston that begins next Tuesday.
