PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, third base coach Steve Smith and catcher Carlos Ruiz all were ejected in the top of the eighth inning of Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers.
Ruiz was tossed first for apparently arguing balls and strikes with plate umpire Bill Welke. Manuel came out to defend his catcher and was ejected moments later. Smith yelled from the dugout and then it was his turn to get thrown out. He sprinted from the steps toward the umps and had to be restrained by Manuel.
The Phillies trailed 7-3 when the trio was thrown out.
