DENVER (AP) -Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon was ejected by home plate umpire Ted Barrett after Barrett came out to break up a visit on the mound in the seventh inning Sunday against Colorado.
It's the first time Maddon has been ejected this season.
Maddon was upset over a check swing ruled in favor of Todd Helton on a 3-2 count. Helton's walk loaded the bases with two outs. Maddon went out to talk to reliever Jay Witasick and waited for Barrett to approach. Barrett didn't listen long before he tossed Maddon on a steamy 93-degree day.
Witasick got Garrett Atkins to ground out to end the seventh and the Devil Rays held a 6-3 lead.
