MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -The Minnesota Twins put outfielder Denard Span on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, and recalled outfielder Jason Pridie from Triple-A Rochester.
Span, out since June 9 because of a right inner ear problem that has caused dizziness, was diagnosed Tuesday with a virus that attacks a nerve that sends signals, such as balance, from the ear to the brain. Medication has been prescribed.
“The doctors said the earliest we might see him out on the field is sometime this weekend. I think we’ll just give him the extra days,” said manager Ron Gardenhire. “It’s the right thing to do. Maybe even go out and get some at-bats after the weekend to see how he’s feeling.”
Span, who has started at all three outfield spots, is hitting .251 in 57 games with four home runs and 24 RBI.
