LOS ANGELES (AP) -The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed 18-year-old Korean infielder Tae-hyeok Nam to a minor league contract.
The team said Tuesday that Nam is the first Korean high school player to be signed by the Dodgers. He currently plays at Jemulpo High in Seoul, South Korea.
Nam batted .314 with 22 homers and 43 RBI in 65 games this season.
In 1994, the Dodgers signed right-handed pitcher Chan Ho Park, who was the first Korean to make the major leagues. Other Koreans to have played for the Dodgers were Hee-seop Choi and right-hander Jae Weong Seo.
The team recently signed Koreans Hyang-nam Choi and Ji-Mo Lee to minor league deals.
