TORONTO (AP) -Blue Jays catcher Gregg Zaun came off the 15-day disabled list Sunday and was the designated hitter in Toronto’s series finale against the Chicago Cubs.
The Blue Jays optioned catcher Curtis Thigpen to Triple-A Syracuse to make room on the roster. Thigpen hit .167 (1-for-7) in four games this season.
Zaun, Toronto’s opening day catcher, had been out since May 27 with a right elbow injury. He made two rehab appearances for Triple-A Syracuse, hitting .250 (2-for-8) with a solo home run.
Catcher Rod Barajas hit .321 (17-for-53) with two home runs and 10 RBI in 16 games during Zaun’s absence and is likely to continue receiving the bulk of the work behind the plate.
Zaun is hitting .264 with two home runs and eight RBI in 41 games this season.
