NEW YORK (AP) -Mets slugger Gary Sheffield is going to get an MRI on his sore right knee.
Sheffield says his knee has been bothering him for the last couple weeks and he just wants to get it checked out. He isn’t sure what day he’s going to get the test.
Despite the soreness, Sheffield was the designated hitter for the third straight day when the lineup for Sunday’s game against the New York Yankees was posted. He homered in the first two games of the Subway Series.
Sheffield could stay out of the outfield for the first part of this week, too. The Mets are off Monday before opening a three-game set at Baltimore on Tuesday.
Sheffield entered Sunday’s game with a .261 batting average, seven homers and 24 RBIs.
