KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -The Kansas City Royals placed right-hander Brandon Duckworth on the 15-day disabled list Thursday and recalled left-hander Neal Musser from Triple-A Omaha.
Duckworth experienced a sharp pain in his left rib cage Wednesday night after coming out of the bullpen and throwing just two strikes in the game against St. Louis.
The Royals also said designated hitter Mike Sweeney would be re-evaluated Thursday and would be day-to-day. Sweeney, who has experienced back trouble for several seasons, had a back spasm while batting in the fourth Wednesday night and fell while running to first on a routine grounder.
