KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -The Kansas City Royals purchased the contract of infielder Fernando Cortez from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday and optioned OF Shane Costa to Omaha.
Cortez was hitting .299 with 12 doubles, a triple, three home runs and 19 RBIs in 61 games. He had also stolen nine bases in 10 attempts.
Costa appeared in 21 games for the Royals, hitting .196 with a triple and five RBIs. The addition of Cortez brings the 40-man roster to 39.
