CHICAGO (AP) -The Chicago Cubs optioned outfielder Matt Murton to Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday to get him more at-bats and recalled left-handed reliever Clay Rapada.
Murton had platooned with veteran Cliff Floyd in left and right field, and his batting average dropped from .297 last year – his first full season in the big leagues – to .252 in 49 games. He had 30 hits, including a homer, and eight RBIs in 119 at-bats.
Rapada was 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA in 29 relief appearances and 9-for-9 in save situations for Iowa.
