TORONTO (AP) -First baseman David Cooper became the first player picked in the first round of last week’s amateur draft to agree to a contract, getting a $1.5 million signing bonus from the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.
Cooper, who hit .359 for California with 19 homers and 55 RBIs in 56 games, was the 17th overall pick. Toronto also agreed to a contract with outfielder Kenneth Wilson, taken in the second round with the 63rd selection.
Toronto announced agreements with 27 of its picks.
