ATLANTA (AP) -Atlanta Braves pitcher Tim Hudson left Saturday night’s game in the third inning after he was hit on his left leg with a ground ball hit by Chicago’s Jacque Jones.
The sharply hit grounder took one hop before hitting Hudson near his shin.
Hudson quickly picked up the ball but his throw to the plate was wide as Derrek Lee scored from third.
The Braves led the Cubs 6-5 when Hudson was replaced by reliever Peter Moylan.
Hudson limped slightly when walking off the field. There was no immediate report on his injury.
Cubs starter Jason Marquis was knocked out of the game in Atlanta’s four-run second inning.
The loss of Hudson came after the Braves placed starter Lance Cormier on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a tired arm. Also on Saturday, John Smoltz had his scheduled start Sunday pushed back to Friday in Cleveland.
The Braves recalled pitcher Buddy Carlyle to start Sunday’s game against the Cubs.
