ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Center fielder Josh Hamilton and shortstop Michael Young were out of the Texas Rangers’ lineup Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Hamilton, who leads the AL in home runs and the majors in RBIs, was sidelined because of a viral infection. Young was out of the lineup for the second time in three games, this time because of a sore groin.
Young was riding a 22-game hitting streak, the longest in the majors this season. He returned to the lineup Saturday night after missing the previous game because of a hairline fracture in his left ring finger. He left after the seventh inning because of tightness in his groin. It wasn’t clear when or how he hurt it.
Texas manager Ron Washington indicated that Hamilton and Young could be available to pinch hit, but nothing more.
