DETROIT (AP) -Cleveland Indians starter Jake Westbrook will have surgery on his right elbow, sidelining him for the rest of the season.
Westbrook was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday and sent to Cleveland to have his elbow checked out. He was placed on the DL retroactive to May 29, the day after he was activated to start against the Chicago White Sox.
Westbrook went 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA in five starts this season. The right-hander was on the DL from April 20 to May 28 with a strained muscle in his left side.
The team said Saturday that Westbrook will have ligament reconstruction surgery in the next week or two.
