ATLANTA (AP) -Florida third baseman Dan Uggla was away from the team on Wednesday for the birth of his child.
He returned to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., but was expected to be back with the team on Thursday for the final game of a four-game series with the Atlanta Braves.
Uggla hit two home runs in Tuesday night’s 5-4 loss to the Braves, his third two-homer game of the season. Uggla leads the Marlins and ranks second in the National League with 18 homers.
Wes Helms was the Marlins’ fill-in starter at third base Wednesday.
