WASHINGTON (AP) -Washington third baseman Ryan Zimmerman was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a shoulder injury.
Zimmerman on Monday was diagnosed with a small tear in his left, non-throwing shoulder, which he injured during a headfirst slide into second base at Baltimore on May 18. He has missed the last seven games because of soreness in the shoulder, and the move to the DL is retroactive to May 26.
Zimmerman is batting .257 and leads the Nationals in both homers (8) and RBIs (27).
The Nationals other players on the DL include Nick Johnson, Austin Kearns, Ronnie Belliard and Paul Lo Duca. Closer Chad Cordero is also on the DL.
The Nationals recalled third baseman Kory Casto from Triple-A Columbus. Casto played in 16 games with Washington last season.
