DENVER (AP) -The San Diego Padres activated Cliff Floyd from the 15-day disabled list before Saturday night’s game with the Colorado Rockies.
Floyd had been sidelined this season with a strained right shoulder and went on the DL on April 5.
He spent a week on a rehab assignment with Class A Lake Elsinore where he hit .190 in 21 at-bats. Floyd met with manager Buddy Black and San Diego’s medical staff Saturday.
“He was honest with us,” Black said. “He will be used as a pinch-hitter off the bench, but will not play in the outfield.”
The Padres optioned Drew Macias to Triple-A Portland to make room for Floyd. Macias hit .278 with a home run and five RBIs in 18 at-bats with San Diego.
