ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -The Los Angeles Angels optioned outfielder Tommy Murphy to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday and purchased the contract of outfielder Nathan Haynes.
To make room for Haynes on their 40-man roster, the Angels put left-hander Phil Seibel on waivers.
The 27-year-old Murphy played in 14 games for the Angels, hitting .176 with no homers and two RBIs.
Haynes, in his 11th professional season, hit .391 with four homers and 32 RBIs at Salt Lake. The 27-year-old has never played in the major leagues.
“Long road, huh,” Angels pitcher John Lackey said in the clubhouse in greeting Haynes before Monday night’s game against Seattle.
“Longer than you know,” Haynes replied.
Haynes signed with the Angels as a minor league free agent last fall.
