DETROIT (AP) -The Detroit Tigers assigned right-hander Roman Colon to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday to start a rehabilitation assignment.
Colon was put on the 60-day disabled list March 31 because he was recovering from neck surgery.
He is 3-1 with a 5.37 ERA in 32 games, including four starts, with the Tigers in parts of two seasons since they acquired him two years ago. Colon was 3-6 with a 4.69 ERA in 41 games for the Atlanta Braves in parts of 2004 and 2005.
If Colon feels better and is effective, he might add depth to Detroit’s depleted bullpen. He was 2-0 with a 4.89 ERA with one save in 20 games last season before going on the disabled list Aug. 14 with neck spasms.
