DETROIT (AP) -Detroit Tigers second baseman Placido Polanco was out of the starting lineup for Sunday night's game against the Cleveland Indians because of a strained oblique.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Polanco, who left Saturday's loss to the Indians with the injury, could have started if the game had been later in the season.
``I'm just not going to take a chance with him right now,'' Leyland said Sunday. ``We've had guys dropping like flies recently, so there's no sense risking another one.''
Polanco is hitting .326 with a homer and 26 RBIs and is among league leaders with a .447 batting average with runners in scoring position.
