PHOENIX (AP) -First baseman Adrian Gonzalez was scratched from the San Diego Padres’ game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night with flulike symptoms.
Gonzalez pinch hit with the bases loaded in the eighth and the Padres trailing 6-4. He hit a flyball to right field to end the inning.
Gonzalez, tied for the major league lead with 17 homers, was replaced in the starting lineup by his brother, Edgar.
Adrian Gonzalez is batting .280 with 31 RBIs for the Padres, who entered with a 10-game winning streak.
