SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -Chipper Jones tested his tender big toe with some running and manager Bobby Cox put the third baseman back in the Atlanta Braves lineup.
Jones returned for Tuesday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants, and Cox said he would monitor his No. 3 hitter to see how he does on the base paths.
Jones injured the big toe on his right foot Thursday night and had only pinch hit since, getting a go-ahead single Sunday against Toronto. The reigning NL batting champion was hitting .319 with four home runs and 16 RBIs and had hit safely in 12 of his previous 15 games.
