CINCINNATI (AP) -Infielder Jason Smith has accepted his assignment to the Houston Astros’ Triple-A team in Round Rock, a change from the last time the 31-year-old infielder was demoted.
Smith was designated for assignment on May 6, cleared waivers and rejected the demotion, choosing to become a free agent instead. He re-signed with the Astros four days later. Smith was 0 for 21 at the time of that demotion.
Last Friday, they designed him for assignment again – he was 0 for 25 on the season – and he cleared waivers again. He accepted the latest assignment on Tuesday.
