ATLANTA (AP) -Chad Tracy came off the disabled list and was listed as the starting first baseman and cleanup hitter for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday against Atlanta.
The Diamondbacks optioned catcher Robby Hammock to Triple-A Tucson to clear a spot for Tracy’s season debut.
Manager Bob Melvin said Tracy, primarily a third baseman throughout his career, would play behind Conor Jackson at first base and Mark Reynolds at third base.
Tracy, returning from knee surgery, hit .264 with seven homers and 35 RBIs in 227 at-bats last season. He hit .308 with 27 homers and 72 RBIs in 2005.
