NEW YORK (AP) -Florida Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez was suspended for one game Friday by Major League Baseball for returning to the field following his ejection.
Gonzalez was tossed in the third inning of Florida’s 5-4, 11-inning win over Philadelphia on Thursday night, then came back to the field the following inning when benches and bullpens emptied. Marlins ace Dontrelle Willis began shouting at the Phillies’ dugout, and players shoved each other near third base.
Gonzalez was to serve the suspension Friday night against the New York Mets. Gonzalez, Willis and Phillies pitcher Jon Lieber were fined.
