HOUSTON (AP) -The Texas Rangers have activated closer Frank Francisco and sent right-handed starter Vicente Padilla to the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder injury.
Francisco will be available for Friday night’s interleague series opener against the Houston Astros. He has nine saves and a 1-0 record in 14 2/3 scoreless innings.
The right-hander went on the DL with right biceps tendinitis on May 16. The move was retroactive to May 7.
Padilla was put on the DL retroactive to Sunday with right shoulder bursitis and is eligible to return June 1. He is 3-2 with a 4.71 ERA in eight starts.
Rookie left-hander Derek Holland was to make his first career start in Padilla’s place Friday night. The 22-year-old is 1-1 with a 4.85 ERA in seven appearances.
