OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -Oakland’s Nomar Garciaparra was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday and immediately rejoined the Athletics’ lineup.
Garciaparra, who went on the DL with a strained right calf on April 29, started at first base against Arizona and batted sixth. It’s the 10th start of the season for the 35-year-old, who signed a one-year contract with Oakland in March.
Prior to going on the DL, Garciaparra was batting only .231 with one home run and seven RBIs.
To make room for Garciaparra, the A’s optioned right-hander Chris Schroder to Triple-A Sacramento. Schroder had not pitched since being called up from the minors on Tuesday.
