OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -Oakland Athletics right-handed reliever Andrew Brown underwent an appendectomy Tuesday and was placed on the 15-day disabled list.
The move was retroactive to May 14, one day after the last day Brown pitched. The A’s recalled left-hander Lenny DiNardo from Triple-A Sacramento to fill Brown’s spot, the second stint in the big leagues this season for DiNardo.
“It’s unfortunate, obviously,” manager Bob Geren said. “I guess this morning (it bothered him). He had some stomach pain in Atlanta, kind of off and on. We didn’t know what it was. And he experienced it a little bit in Tokyo.”
Brown is 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 17 relief outings for Oakland, while DiNardo was 1-1 with a 10.57 ERA in four games and two starts before being sent down to Sacramento on April 26.
