DENVER (AP) -The Colorado Rockies designated infielder John Mabry for assignment and recalled outfielder Ryan Spilborghs from Triple-A Colorado Springs before the game Saturday night against Kansas City.
Mabry was 4-for-34, batting .118 with one home run and five RBIs in 28 games for the Rockies this season. He was 1-for-21 as a pinch-hitter. The Rockies have 10 days to trade, release or outright him to the minor leagues.
Spilborghs played 68 games for the Rockies last season. This season with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, he is batting .323 with five home runs and 17 RBIs in 34 games.
Colorado now has 39 players on its 40-man roster.
