CHICAGO (AP) -The Chicago Cubs recalled right-hander Carlos Marmol from Triple-A Iowa and optioned infielder Mike Fontenot to the minor league team Friday.
Manager Lou Piniella said that Marmol would be used in middle relief. Marmol pitched in 19 games with the Cubs last season, including 13 starts, and went 5-7 with a 6.08 ERA.
Fontenot was called up from Iowa on May 15 and got his first major league hit that night against the Mets.
Piniella indicated that other roster moves would be forthcoming and some might be surprising. He did not elaborate.
``We're going to make some changes here with our alignment,'' he said.
