CHICAGO (AP) -Chicago White Sox third baseman Joe Crede was scratched from Friday’s game against the crosstown rival Cubs after being hit in the face with a ground ball during batting practice.
Crede was taking grounders from third base coach Razor Shines when a ball bounced up and hit him in the mouth. He didn’t need stitches or X-rays, and stayed at Wrigley Field, getting ice in the trainer’s room.
Crede, who has played in all but two games this season, was replaced at third by Pablo Ozuna. Luis Terrero took Ozuna’s spot in left field.
