DETROIT (AP) -The St. Louis Cardinals activated right-handed pitcher Todd Wellemeyer on Friday and sent right-hander Brian Falkenborg outright to Triple-A Memphis.
St. Louis claimed Wellemeyer off waivers Tuesday from Kansas City after he was 0-1 with a 10.34 ERA in 12 games for the Royals.
Wellemeyer's career record was 6-8 with a 5.65 ERA in 115 games, entering the series opener on the road against the Detroit Tigers in a World Series rematch.
In five games with the Cardinals, Falkenborg was 0-1 with an 8.31 ERA. The Cardinals purchased his contract earlier this month after he led the PCL with nine saves in 11 games.
