MIAMI (AP) -Manny Ramirez has apologized to his Los Angeles Dodgers teammates after being suspended for 50 games for using a banned drug.
His meeting with teammates Friday took place in South Florida before the Dodgers arrived at the Florida Marlins’ stadium to start a three-game weekend series, a person familiar with the meeting said. The person did not want to be identified until manager Joe Torre talked with the media about the meeting.
The person said Ramirez will not be at the ballpark this weekend. Ramirez lives near the Marlins’ stadium.
Dodgers owner Frank McCourt had encouraged Ramirez to apologize to his teammates.
The Los Angeles Times first reported the meeting.
