NEW YORK (AP) -Johnny Damon was ejected after being called out on strikes in the third inning of the New York Yankees’ game against the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.
Damon was called out by plate umpire Wally Bell on a 2-2 pitch the left fielder thought was inside. Damon shouted at Bell, pointed with his bat to the outside of the plate, then dragged the bat to draw a line across the inside of the plate. Bell immediately tossed him.
It was Damon’s third career ejection, his second since joining the Yankees in 2006. He also was tossed on Sept. 18, 2006, at Toronto for arguing with plate umpire Bill Miller following a strikeout by teammate Hideki Matsui.
Damon was 0 for 2, ending a streak of 10 consecutive games with extra-base hits.
