SEATTLE (AP) -Seattle ace Felix Hernandez returned after being out nearly a month and Jason Davis arrived from Cleveland to complete a trade as the Mariners made three roster moves on Tuesday.
Davis, a hard-throwing right-handed reliever acquired on Sunday for a player to be named after Cleveland had designated him for assignment, was activated before Tuesday night’s game with the Los Angeles Angels.
Seattle optioned left-hander Ryan Rowland-Smith back to Triple-A Tacoma. The Mariners had recalled Rowland-Smith on Friday. He did not pitch in a game while with the team.
To make room on its 40-man major league roster for Davis, Seattle transferred veteran left-hander Arthur Rhodes to the 60-day disabled list. Rhodes had season-ending ligament replacement surgery on his elbow earlier this month.
With Hernandez’s return from the 15-day disabled list with the forearm strain, the Mariners optioned right-hander Sean Green to Tacoma immediately before the game, once they were assured Hernandez was ready to start. Green had no record and a 5.06 ERA in three games.
